Reformation to Restoration

Germany • The Netherlands • Belgium
10 Days | 9 Nights | Berlin to Brussels

Travel with a purpose! Step back into the story that reshaped the Church and transformed the world. Go back to your spiritual roots on a life-changing educational tour that brings the Protestant Reformation to life — not just as history, but as lived experience. Join the FMC Europe for an exciting, informative time of exploration, prayer, and learning.

More than 500 years ago, a movement of rediscovery began that forever changed the world — the Protestant Reformation. When Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in 1517, a liberating power was unleashed. The biblical gospel of justification by grace alone began to refresh the Church and free countless people from crippling sin, guilt, and superstition. From that moment, the Reformation spread across Europe and beyond — transforming hearts, churches, nations, and history itself. This 10-day, 9-night, three-country journey invites you to walk where history happened.

Our journey to explore the sites and heroes of the Reformation will begin with an overnight flight to Berlin.  (IF)

Day 2  Thu. September-02: Arrival in Berlin
Welcome to Germany! On arrival in Berlin, participants will take a taxi to the centrally located hotel. After time to explore, we will gather back at the hotel to begin the tour. Day 3  Fri. September-03: Wittenberg (Torgau)
This morning, our local guide will take us on a tour of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. It was here in 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses, and Melanchthon helped forge Reformation Theology. Here, the Cranachs painted now-famous portraits of Luther. We will spend time in the Lutherhalle (Luther House) Museum, where Luther lived first as a monk, then later with his wife and children. We will be able to view some of Luther’s very own personal library, rare manuscripts, and early Bibles. The tour will also include Castle Church, Stadtkirche St. Marien (St. Mary’s church), where Luther preached and where his children were baptized, and the Luther Oak, where he burned the edict from Rome, condemning him as a “heretic”. The rest of the day will be free to enjoy the town.

Day 4 Sat. September-04: Berlin
This morning, our local Berlin city guide will board the bus and take us on a sightseeing overview tour of this once-divided metropolis. We will view the elegant Kurfürstendamm, known locally as the Ku’damm, one of the most famous avenues in Berlin. We will see the restored Reichstag, explore Charlottenburg Castle, and pause for a picture stop at the monumental Brandenburg Gate. We will view the Jewish Holocaust Memorial and the Victory Column in the vast Tiergarten Park. Afterward, we will transfer to our hotel in Amsterdam for check-in and have dinner on our own. (IF)

After lunch on our own, we will see the Old Lutheran Church, the first Lutheran church in Amsterdam, located in a former warehouse, and stroll through the Begijnhof, one of Amsterdam’s best-known almshouses. Via the Bloemenmarkt, the only floating flower market in the world, we will walk to the Waterlooplein (Waterloo Square) with its famous market, the Rembrandt House, and the Portuguese Synagogue. The evening will be at leisure. Dinner on our own. (B)

Day 7 - Tue. September-07: Alkmaar, Volendam, Haarlem, Amsterdam
